Noticeboard

Changes to Prescription Opening Hours

As from Monday 18th February 2019 the prescription office will only be open from 9.00am - 1.00pm Monday - Friday

If you have an urgent prescription query outside of these hours then please speak to a receptionist

Out of Hours

The 111 Service will take over from 6.30pm to 8.00am Monday through to Friday morning and 6.30pm on Friday to 8.00am Monday.  Although the Surgery is closed medical help is always available by calling the surgery number and listening to the information.  When the surgery is closed the Out of Hours may be contacted on  - 111.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, call 999.

Telephone Advice

On receiving the request from a patient to speak to a GP or a nurse the message is taken by the receptionist for the named clinician and the message is then conveyed for appropriate action by the clinician.  The clinician will then telephone the patient.    Receptionists cannot put calls directly through to clinicians during clinics unless the situation requires emergency attention.  Telephone consultations are also available with doctors and nurses.

Cancelling your Appointment

If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone the surgery to cancel your appointment.  By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.  You are now able to cancel your appointment by texting our appointment cancellation hotline on 07936843797.  Please text your name, date of birth and the date of the appointment which you wish to cancel.

This telephone number is for the cancellation of appointments only

Weekend, Bank Holiday and Evening GP Service

Patients can now book a weekend/bank holiday appointment with a GP or Practice Nurse.  The service will be open on Saturdays and Sundays between 9.00am to 3.00pm.  During Bank Holidays please call for details.

Advance appointments can be booked via Oaklands Surgery by ringing 01268 209339 and for on the day appointments telephone one of the surgeries listed below during times shown.  This service is available to patients who are registered at participating surgeries only.  Please note that this is not a walk-in service but by appointment only.

The service is available at the following GP Surgeries:

The Surgery, 1a Hawkesbury Road, Canvey Island SS8 0EX, 01268 683288 or Audley Mills Surgery, 57 Eastwood Road, Rayleigh SS6 7JF 01268 740501.

Electronic Prescription Service

Oaklands Surgery is now offering the Electronic Prescription Service, which allows patients to choose or 'nominate' a pharmacy to get your medicines or appliances from.  Your GP then sends your prescription electronically to the place you nominated.  This means:

  • If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription, saving time

  • You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop

  • You may not have to wait as long as your repeat prescriptions could be prepared before you arrive

Please note that all prescriptions enquiries are now dealt with at Reception

Repeat Prescriptions can be put into the prescription box in reception.  Repeat Prescriptions can be obtained by ticking the items required as shown on the last prescription slip received.  If you do not have a request slip please complete a routine slip held at Reception.  All on the day prescription requests must first be discussed with Reception.

Your prescription can be sent directly to either Boots, Co-Op, Alliance or Pharma Chemists for collection, or delivery, if prior arrangements have been made. You will need to sign up with your chosen pharmacy to take advantage of these services. Alternatively you can enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your request and we will post it back to you.

Because we are constantly aware of the safety, the risks and, of course, the benefits of prescribed medicines, please understand that repeat prescriptions will only be available after careful scrutiny of your request.  Therefore please allow 48 hours (not including weekends and Bank Holidays) for the issue of a repeat prescription. Please allow 5 working days if your request is for a controlled drug.

On the day prescriptions are only issued in very exceptional circumstances identified by clinical need and will be available after 6.15pm.  Patients are advised to request a repeat prescription approximately 1 week before running out of their medication.

Repeat Prescriptions are not produced over the weekend or on Bank Holidays.  Please see below:

TuesdayAfter 6.30pm on Thursday

When a doctor wishes you to have regular medication, you will need a Medication Review every 6 months.  Failing to attend your review may cause a delay to your request.  Please understand our cautionary approach on this matter as uncontrolled issues of repeat prescriptions could, under certain circumstances, be potentially dangerous and compromise your health.

Please allow 48 hours for repeat prescriptions to be processed and 5 working days for Controlled Drugs

We now have a dedicated prescription office for queries and advice on prescriptions

If you have a mobile telephone recorded:

  • You will receive a message telling you when to collect your prescription from the surgery or advise you when your prescription will be available.
  • Prescriptions that have been generated through the Electronic Prescribing Service will be fowarded to the pharmacist of your choice and you will be advised of this.

Please therefore ensure that our records are kept up to date
