Out of Hours

The 111 Service will take over from 6.30pm to 8.00am Monday through to Friday morning and 6.30pm on Friday to 8.00am Monday.  Although the Surgery is closed medical help is always available by calling the surgery number and listening to the information.  When the surgery is closed the Out of Hours may be contacted on  - 111.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, call 999.

Telephone Advice

On receiving the request from a patient to speak to a GP or a nurse the message is taken by the receptionist for the named clinician and the message is then conveyed for appropriate action by the clinician.  The clinician will then telephone the patient.    Receptionists cannot put calls directly through to clinicians during clinics unless the situation requires emergency attention.  Telephone consultations are also available with doctors and nurses.

Cancelling your Appointment

If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone the surgery to cancel your appointment.  By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.  You are now able to cancel your appointment by texting our appointment cancellation hotline on 07936843797.  Please text your name, date of birth and the date of the appointment which you wish to cancel.

This telephone number is for the cancellation of appointments only

Electronic Prescription Service

Oaklands Surgery is now offering the Electronic Prescription Service, which allows patients to choose or 'nominate' a pharmacy to get your medicines or appliances from.  Your GP then sends your prescription electronically to the place you nominated.  This means:

  • If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription, saving time

  • You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop

  • You may not have to wait as long as your repeat prescriptions could be prepared before you arrive

Let's Keep Moving

Following on from the success of the Let's Get Moving campaign and with some additional funding Let's KEEP moving has been set up.

Quote from a Lets Keep Moving champion

"Although we probably all know that becoming more active is definitely good for us, actually getting around to doing something about it does tend to get put off until another day.

In 2016, Let’s Get Moving came to Oaklands Surgery and in the following year or so, practice patients who were referred to the service, discovered that activity really was nothing to be scared of and in fact, could be hugely enjoyable.

Upon joining the group they discovered it to be a friendly, good humoured, non-threatening, health promoting forum where attendees could find advice, motivation, friendship and guidance in how to make activity a regular part of everyday life.

The group flourished and now in 2018 is continuing as "Let’s Keep Moving" and is made up of older adults.  Meeting at the Paddocks Community Centre, Long Road, Canvey Island on Monday Mornings between 9.30-10.30am. Each session is guided by Victoria Mottershead, a qualified exercise professional who leads the group through a blend of light exercise, helpful tips about local activity opportunities from local gyms, swimming clubs, get into golf, walking groups etc, and information about healthy eating and well-being. Let’s Keep Moving is also a place where new friendships are formed and where a sense of well-being, good humour and camaraderie is present in the conversations and activities each week.

Let’s Keep Moving is jointly funded by Active Essex and Castle Point Council and Group meetings are free to attend, and are specifically designed for older adults.
